Non-Compliant Plug-In Solar Kits: Every Kit the ENA Register Lists as Not Approved
The ENA G98 Type Test Register doesn't only list approved kits. As of 30 September 2026 it also lists 17 Plug-in Solar records as non-compliant, from 11 brands. A non-compliant kit does not qualify for the socket self-install route, whatever the shop listing says.
Last checked: 4 October 2026. Register data from the ENA API (pulled 30 September 2026). This list changes often: records get added, withdrawn and re-listed as compliant within days.
Quick Facts - 17 non-compliant Plug-in Solar records, against 84 compliant - Biggest group: five Perlight PowerPlug+ models, registered 26 September. Perlight's other 13 models are compliant - Whole brands with no compliant kit: Sigenergy (3 models), Cody Earth Solutions, Plugsol, Voltanic, Smith Bros (SolarGo), Fusion Renewables, Tsai B&T, Longshen Energy and The Solar Home. InstaGroup has 2 compliant kits and 1 non-compliant - The register gives no reason. Read "non-compliant" as "not approved for socket use", not as "proven unsafe"

What "Non-Compliant" Actually Means
The register publishes a status, not a test report. A record can be non-compliant because the evidence submitted was incomplete, because the kit configuration doesn't meet the Plug-in Solar requirements, or because it failed a technical requirement. The register doesn't say which.
What we can see from the descriptions:
- Battery kits. The Solar Home's LS-800Mi is described as an integrated kit with DC-coupled battery storage. Kits with batteries are outside the socket route by design, so this listing could never have been compliant as a Plug-in Solar device.
- Re-listings happen. Worldwide Solar's earlier entries were non-compliant and then withdrawn, and the brand now has 10 compliant kits. Perlight's PowerPlug+ MAX 465 went from non-compliant to compliant on 24 September. A non-compliant entry today may be fixed next week.
- Same kit, two registrants. Longshen Energy and The Solar Home both list an LS-800Mi, and both are non-compliant. It looks like a manufacturer and a reseller registering the same hardware.
I Already Bought One. What Now?
- Don't plug it into a socket until the exact model is listed compliant.
- Check the exact model number against the register. Names are close: Perlight's PowerPlug MAX is compliant, the PowerPlug+ MAX is not.
- Ask the seller whether a compliant re-listing is in progress, and when. Under the Consumer Rights Act, goods must match their description. If a kit was sold as "plug-in ready" but isn't approved for socket use, that may give you grounds for a refund. Citizens Advice can help.
- The alternative route is an installer-fitted connection with a G98 notification, which may be possible if the kit's inverter is itself G98 type-tested. An electrician can confirm. See the legal guide.
FAQ
Is it illegal to use a non-compliant plug-in solar kit? Plugging it into a socket is outside the route SI 2026/848 created, so you would not be covered by the plug-in rules or notification. It may also affect your home insurance.
Why is the Perlight PowerPlug+ non-compliant when other Perlight kits are fine? The register doesn't say. The five PowerPlug+ records were listed on 26 September and are separate products from the compliant PowerPlug, FLEX and MAX ranges. See our Perlight page.
